Basement epoxy floor coating — moisture-resistant system by Hardcore Epoxy Detroit

Basement Epoxy Flooring & Waterproofing in Metro Detroit

Moisture-resistant epoxy systems designed for below-grade environments. We test for hydrostatic pressure, install vapor barriers, and apply commercial-grade coatings that transform damp basements into clean, usable spaces.

Why Moisture Management Matters for Basement Floors

Basements in Metro Detroit sit below the water table. Without proper moisture testing and vapor barriers, any coating — epoxy or otherwise — will fail. Water vapor migrates through concrete via hydrostatic pressure, causing delamination, bubbling, and peeling.

At Hardcore Epoxy Flooring, we start every basement project with calcium chloride and relative humidity testing. If moisture levels exceed acceptable thresholds, we install commercial vapor barrier primers before coating. This extra step is the difference between a floor that lasts 2 years and one that lasts 20.

Basement Epoxy Features

Moisture Testing

Calcium chloride and relative humidity tests to identify hydrostatic pressure before any coating is applied.

Vapor Barrier Primers

Commercial-grade moisture mitigating primers that seal out water vapor from below the slab.

Diamond Grinding

Full surface grinding for a true mechanical bond — never acid etching in moisture-prone environments.

Below-Grade Rated

Coating systems specifically formulated for below-grade conditions where moisture is a constant factor.

Anti-Microbial

Sealed epoxy floors eliminate the porous concrete surface where mold and mildew thrive.

Bright & Modern

Transform a dark, damp basement into a bright, clean living space with light-colored coatings.

Basement Epoxy FAQ

Yes — moisture management is a core part of our process. We perform calcium chloride and relative humidity testing to measure moisture levels. If hydrostatic pressure is present, we apply vapor barrier primers before the coating system. We never skip this step.
Most basements are completed in 2-3 days depending on size and moisture conditions. Day 1 is diamond grinding and moisture prep, Day 2 is the coating system. You can walk on the floor within 24 hours.
The epoxy system itself is waterproof on the surface, but no coating can stop water from underneath if you have active hydrostatic pressure. That's why we test first and install vapor barriers where needed. The finished floor resists standing water, spills, and humidity.
